Description

Changes during contract performance can leave federal contractors doing more work or incurring costs they did not anticipate. A Request for Equitable Adjustment (REA) provides a way to seek a contract adjustment when there is a contractual basis for doing so. Understanding when an REA may be appropriate and how to support it can help your business avoid absorbing costs it may be entitled to recover.

Jacquin Gilchrist, Esq., and Christian Granados, Esq., of The Gilchrist Law Firm, P.A., explain how to recognize scope changes, justify a requested price increase, and prepare an REA. The course also examines government shutdowns as a potential source of contract disruption, without assuming that every disruption creates an entitlement to additional payment.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Recognize changes to the work required under your contract that may warrant an equitable adjustment.
  • Explain the basis for a requested price increase and connect it to the change in contract requirements.
  • Prepare an REA that clearly presents the requested adjustment and its supporting justification.
  • Evaluate next steps when the contracting officer does not respond to your REA.
  • Understand how to convert an REA into a claim under the Contract Disputes Act.

Target Audience: Designed for federal contractors, particularly small businesses, the training will help you better assess potential adjustments and understand the process for pursuing them.
